Happy Tuesday-
New Year's Eve approaches. Are you going to go all out and do something fabulous? Maybe with a pair of very high heels and a sparkly gown? I have a very swanky party to attend this year. Some friends are hosting a fancy dinner with all sorts of yummy food and libations at their home. We are all pretty excited about this at our house. I made some new earrings with
rhinestone balls and if my children had black-tie jammies, they'd wear them. We may settle for regular jammies with dress-up tutus and tiaras. The party is a Take-Out Pot Luck, which is the easiest kind of all. Each family will bring their favorite take-out food. We are completely eliminating the step of putting the take out food into your own container to pretend you made it yourself. We'll make fancy drinks for the children (recipe below!) and for the adults (recipe below!) and enjoy a United Nations buffet of Mexican, Thai, Indian and Italian delicacies. There will be cake. I know, you are jealous. It's not too late to scrap the adults-only, black tie affair and just call some friends...

Drink Recipes
Fancy Pink Drink (thanks to my friend Nancy for this inspiration!)
1 liter of cold club soda
5 tbsp of cherry juice concentrate
1 can of frozen grape juice, thawed (get the white kind if you love your hostess!)
very thin slices of clementines for garnish or frozen grapes for fun
Mix this all up in the biggest clear pitcher or punch bowl you own. Decorate the cups with plastic monkey/cocktail umbrellas/etc for maximum fun. Teach the children to hold cups with their pinkies out and to call each other 'darling' a lot while drinking this.
The Amelie
1 sugar cube
Lillet (red or white, I prefer red)
Champagne
Place a sugar cube in the bottom of a champagne flute, pour Lillet to cover the cube and top off with cold champagne. For extra fun, give all the children sugar cubes
