July 27, 2010: doing the rain dance

Hello-

As I write this to you it is raining. Yes, actual rain coming at a nice, drippy pace. The drops are skittering down my window in a race to the bottom, the cars in the parking lot are shiny wet and the heads of the folks walking by are ducked down to avoid the drips. It is lovely. Here in North Carolina we are at the very edges of drought; our grass was bone dry, the leaves of trees were turned up and papery, the sidewalks and streets dusty and tired. This rain will wash us all clean and make the plants sing. Now, it will also push our humidity level up to something like the steam room at the Y and make my curly hair a fuzzy cap on my head but that's okay with me. I'll take that.

We've had a lot of folks beating the heat (and humidity)the past few weeks at our worktables and in our classes. If you haven't yet tried this, come join us-

Wednesday is the day for KidsWork Wednesdays. We have a menu of projects and the work table is open from 2-5:00. Bring your 5-12 year old in every week. Don't have a 5-12 year old? Call a friend and borrow their children. The kids will have a great time and the friend? let's just say someone will very be happy to see you!

Thursday you can join Caroline for Three Sisters Earrings and make three very different pairs of earrings. Share them or just expand your own wardrobe with this trio of sparkly, wire-worked earrings.

Friday you can join Tiffany for the Fused Silver Components class and learn to fuse fine silver. This no-solder technique actually melts the metal surfaces until they merge.There are no seams or solder marks. Pre-registration is required, please call the store.

Oh, you can also take the Sweet Sweat Soldered Set and do a bit of soldering that night...think of the luxury of two classes in one day? Wow, you deserve that!

Saturday you can join Heidi for the Simple Symmetrical Earrings (pictured to the left) or Susan Reynolds for the Faux Bezel Set Stone class and have a great time learning something new.

Monday join Ndidi for the Gala Ring and you'll learn how to cold solder with an electric iron.

The soldering iron actually does get pretty hot, but not as hot as the rings you'll make.

Call to pre-register, yes, you can bring in images and papers to use in your rings.

Try It Tuesday on August 3rd and make a lacey pair of filigree earrings for just $2. We will show you how to link filigree pieces together for a light and elaborate accessory.
