Creative Cluster Necklace

Dangling beads from a larger ring gives you a delightful gathering of color and shape. This technique can be used for earrings and necklaces, just adjust the scale of your beads. Our directions are for the turquoise and copper necklace shown, vary the ingredients to make one of the other styles.

If the techniques in this project are unfamiliar you may want to visit our Basics page.

Ingredients

- 1 antique copper hammered ring, 22 mm
- 1 antique copper lobster claw, 6 x 11 mm
- 2 antique copper jump rings, 5 mm
- 17 inches antique copper small cable chain
- 3 antique copper jump rings, 7 mm
- 13 antique copper head pins, 1 inch
- 26 antique copper Tiny Fluted Bead Caps
- 13 turquoise druk beads, 8 mm
- 2 inches of brass wire, 20 gauge
- 26 metallic iris seed beads (we used Toho 11/0 Round Teal/Purple Iris beads)

Tools

- Chain nose pliers
- Round nose pliers
- Wire cutters

1. Feed a head pin through a seed bead, a bead cap, a druk, a bead cap and another seed bead. Bend the head pin over at a 90 degree angle and clip to 1/3 inch. Using your round nose pliers make a loop in the wire. Repeat to create bead dangles from all the druks.

2. To attach bead dangles to the ring use your chain nose pliers to gently open the wire on the top of one of the bead dangles and hook it around the ring. Close securely. Repeat to attach all bead dangles to the copper ring.

3. Using your chain nose pliers open a 5 mm jump ring and attach the clasp to one end of the chain. Attach the remaining 5 mm jump ring to the other end of the chain.

4. Using your chain nose pliers open a 7 mm jump ring and thread it around the chain and around the copper ring. Close securely. Repeat with remaining 7 mm jump rings.
